Namchi, April 14, 2018:  Namchi Public School’s Boys’ and Girls’ team win the ARCEIS ‘CD’ Division Basketball Tournament, 2018.  This year’s tournament was organized by Namchi Public School.  The schools that took part were, Namchi Public School, Namchi, St. Xavier’s School, Pakyong, St. Joseph’s School, Martam, and Don Bosco School, Malbasey.  

NPS’ Boys & Girls team won all their matches very convincingly.  They dominated the tournament from the start to the finish.  In the finals, the boys’ team defeated St. Xavier’s School & the girls’ team defeated St. Joseph’s School, Martam.  For the third place, Don Bosco School, Malbasey, defeated St. Joseph’s School, Martam, in the Boys’ category & in the Girls’ category, St. Xavier’s School, Pakyong, defeated Don Bosco School, Malbasey.  NPS teams’ Lhakchung Tsh. Bhutia and Ranjana Rai bagged the Most Valuable Player honours in both the categories for their splendid performance.  The trophies, medals and certificates were presented by Rev. Fr. Francis Crasta, Principal of St. George’s Higher Secondary School, Pedong, Rev. Fr. Francis George S.J., Vice Principal, Loyola College of Education, Namchi, and Rev. Fr. Noel Pereira.

In the inaugural function, Principal of NPS, Rev. Fr. George A. D’Souza, welcomed the teams and all participants to the tournament and emphasized the importance of sportsmanship and also such tournaments gives a platform to the youngsters to make new friends, see new places and also showcase their talents to wider audience and overall make Sikkim attain greater glory in the sporting world.  The tournament witnessed some budding talents of the hills who could go on to make a big name in the sport like Basketball.
