Namchi, September 04, 2018: I-League 2017-18 Champions, Minerva Punjab Football Club in collaboration with South District Football Association and Namchi Public School, conducted trials for budding footballers in Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18 categories in NPS’ football field on 2nd and 3rd September, 2018. More than one thousand footballers from across Sikkim, Darjeeling and Kalimpong, had come for the trials along with their coaches and parents. The budding footballers showcased their skills in friendly matches to the Head coach of Minerva Punjab FC, Mr Harpreet Singh and his assistant Mr S. Pradhan. The two coaches were impressed by the skills and talents of the footballers. They also gave the players tips to improve their skills and have promised to come next year too for more trials.
The coaches selected many budding footballers in all four categories and the selected players will be travelling to Chandigarh, for final trials and from there on to join their football academy. Eight players among the selected ones were from Namchi Public School’s Football team. The Principal of NPS, Rev. Fr. George A. D’Souza, congratulated the selected players and the Coach, Mr AlEn Tshering Bhutia for making NPS proud.
Earlier, in the weekend NPS’ ‘CD’ Division Boys Football team had won the ARCEIS Inter-School ‘CD’ Division Football Tournament – 2018, that was held in St. Joseph’s School, Rhenock. NPS team defeated St. Xavier’s School, Pakyong by 2 goals to 1 in the finals. Both the goals were scored by Birash Rai. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. NPS is proud to produce budding young footballers who are making the state and our country proud with their skills and talent.
