In the middle school level, the intellectual component is greater than it is at the primary level. At this level, the dominant teaching style is “active learning”. Children are encouraged to explore and investigate, to think about social and intellectual issues on their own, to refer to printed materials, to make use of the library and internet resources, etc., and to express themselves accurately. They are encouraged to take responsibility for their work and to ask questions. The curriculum integrates areas like literature, language, science, social studies, mathematics, computers, art, music, etc.
At the High school level, children need to gear themselves for their board exams. Adequate care is taken in this regard in NPS, with a well laid out routine of weekly tests, end of term examinations and practise tests. An interaction based approach forms the core concept of curriculum transaction at this level. It allows the student to explore, gather, process, refine and present information. The learning is, therefore, relevant and purposeful.
